The Green Economics Institute and Green Economics Organisation  is looking for several passionate and hardworking individuals to join our summer internship programme. Our programme is varied and adapted to suit you and your interests. What we can offer you is a place to learn new skills, meet a range of different people and learn about sustainability, environmental events, and a behind the scenes look at running a charitable organisation and outdoor community.

As an intern, you will be a valuable member of the crew throughout the summer and will be responsible for managing teams of volunteers. We have groups of volunteers staying for different durations, and we need our interns to be the backbone of the organisation, providing ongoing knowledge of the activities and undertaking longer term projects. On-the-job training and an induction will be provided in the first week, with continual guidance from a dedicated member of the trustee board. You will have the opportunity to measure your progress through regular check-ins with the interns managers. Interns will join the volunteers during the summer events cycle.

Successful applicants for the internship programme should work well as part of a team as well as independently, enjoy taking on new challenges and responsibilities, and have an interest in sustainability, charity work, ecotourism, and outdoor living. You will gain considerable management experience and learn about the challenges involved in sustainable living and environmental education.

The Green Economics Institute and Green Economics Organisation

is an entirely volunteer-run organisation and as an educational charity, teaching our interns has been an integral part of our work for over ten years.

We  have hosted interns every summer for around 21 years  and the feedback we have received has been excellent. Our interns have gained life-changing skills with us and have described their time as the best summer of their lives. We are a   unique and magical organisation, with something for everyone.

We warmly welcome and encourage individuals of all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, genders, abilities, ages, religions, and orientations to apply as interns.

Internship programme structure

At The Green Economics Institute , we tailor our internships to your skills, areas of interest and what you’d like to develop. You could run one long project, or a portfolio of smaller projects, all with a focus on sustainability, social justice and economics justice and future philosophies and out of the box thinking.

Past projects have included:

  • Writing a climate change, fundraising, biodiversity, health, social justice, etc strategy for our charity
  • Designing and painting our artwork
  • Helping with our social media
  • Designing and running educational workshops
  • Designing and running our conferences
  • Helping plan our United Nations Delegation events and speeches
  • Running our exhibition stands
  • Producing, writing, editing and our commissioning and publishing our books and magazines
  • setting up and running  our educational offerings, phds, masters and summer schools and field trips

We run via a number of “departments” and alongside your individual project, you will be tasked with responsibilities within one or several of these departments (you can tell us your preferences in your application). You are advised to read the departmental descriptions and think about which parts interest you, as well as what skills you have and could lend to us for our summer season. The departments are as follows:

  • Climate change and environmental justice
  • Biodiversity and resilience
  • Green Tech
  • Office and project management
  • Eco events management
  • Publishing books and magazines
  • Education
  • TV and media of all kinds
  • Health sustainable and future prevention
  • Social justice
  • Law and legal codes for the 22nd centuries
  • Running our charity

Our internships are really flexible, so if you‘re really keen to run one of these departments, or if you want a real variety, just let us know!

Duration and travel

All internships will start  on a rolling basis and end after our last United Nations event but any length of time is accepted longer than 2 weeks engagement and can be in person or on line or mixed. Successful applicants can be part time or full time.

The Costs

We do  not pay any of its volunteers, trustees or interns. But you will be able to attend for free,  the events you organise.

We require that you take out a student membership for the year in which you join us which will help us meet the costs of insurance and looking after you and providing support for you.You can find this at www.geimembership.org.

Certificates and academic references and accreditations can be discussed separately as we have been providing these for 21 years and need to be organised individually to meet your needs and those of any educational institutions you are working with or universities or colleges.

We carry out all visa checks needed at the time according to regulations. We have extensive knowledge about this and will take action if anyone is found deliberately misusing our Institute.

We look for a twinkle in the eye of our teams and the ability to think outside the box and perhaps if you have had some adversity in life it gives a different perspective which provides new horizons which humans really do need at the moment.
